Tiny Birds Worth Looking For
The world’s smallest birds can be very easy to miss (not surprisingly), even when they're nearby or right in front of you. Many of them move quickly, stay partly hidden, or live in specific regions that make spotting them feel extra special. From famous hummingbirds to tiny woodland species, these five birds are ones you'll consider yourself lucky if you ever get to see them.
1. Bee Hummingbird
The bee hummingbird is widely known as the smallest bird in the world. Found in Cuba, it can measure around 2 inches long and weigh less than 2 grams, which makes seeing one sound almost impossible. Its bright coloring and fast movements certainly make it challenging to spot!
2. Vervain Hummingbird
The vervain hummingbird is often described as one of the tiniest birds after the bee hummingbird. At only 6 centimeters long, this tiny creature can be found in parts of the Caribbean, including Jamaica and Hispaniola.
3. Calliope Hummingbird
The calliope hummingbird is the smallest bird found in the United States and Canada. At around just 7 centimeters long, you'll be lucky if you ever get to catch of glimpse of this energetic bird!
4. Goldcrest
The goldcrest is one of Europe’s smallest birds, best known for the bright stripe on its head. But despite its bright coloring, because it usually measures around 8.5 to 9 centimeters long, it can disappear quickly from your sight.

5. Weebill
Over in Australia, the weebill is one of their smallest birds, measuring only around 8 to 9 centimeters long. It has a rounded body, a short bill, and a soft-looking appearance that makes it especially charming. Since it often moves through eucalyptus trees, spotting one can be a real challenge.
