5 Unique Names For Groups Of Animals

Cooler Than The Word Group

As humans, we don't have any particularly fancy words to describe when many of us are together. But for animals, it's a different story. Each grouping has its own specific term that describes them, and while some might not make any sense, it is interesting learning the proper word to use. Here are just five examples of unique names for groups of animals.

1. A Pride Of Lions

Famously made known thanks to Disney's hit movie, The Lion King, it is called Pride Rock for a reason. A group of lions is best known as a pride, which, funnily enough, perfectly reflects the confidence and charisma these animals are best associated with. It just seems like a fitting word.

2. An Army Of Caterpillars

We're not too sure why a group of caterpillars would be called an army, especially when such a word evokes strength and power that these cute little bugs don't have. The phrase just feels a bit like an oxymoron somehow!

3. A Tower Of Giraffes

Though calling a group of animals a "tower" doesn't quite make sense when you first hear it, when you find out it's for giraffes, it suddenly clicks. Even if it's not a word we'd ever use to describe a group, it does nicely honor the incredible height of these majestic creatures.

4. A Troubling Of Goldfish

We're not too sure what would be troubling about a group of goldfish, but that's hilariously (and interestingly) the word chosen to describe a group of these aquatic animals. It definitely makes goldfish seem more dangerous than they actually are.

5. A Shadow Of Jaguars

Now here's a really cool-sounding one. A group of jaguars can be referred to as a shadow, perfectly describing their sneaky ability to creep on you. It does a good job describing their quiet nature, especially when hunting for prey.
