When Your Home Becomes Their Playground
Cats are charming roommates, don’t get us wrong, but they don’t always respect the difference between furniture and a personal jungle gym. One minute, they’re curled up all peaceful-like, and the next, they’re testing the structural integrity of your favorite chair. If you share your space with a feline, these pieces are especially likely to receive some “customization.”
1. Your Sofa
The sofa is usually a cat’s first masterpiece because it offers everything they love in one convenient location. It has soft fabric. It has sturdy arms and prime viewing space for judging the household. Honestly, even with a scratching post nearby, your cat may decide the couch has a better texture.
2. Dining Chairs
Dining chairs can become tiny training stations for claws, especially if they’re upholstered. While we go out of our way to protect our chairs, your cat might leave little evidence trails before you’ve even poured your coffee. Since chairs are often scattered around the room, they provide plenty of opportunities for casual mischief, too.
3. Bed Frames
Oh, you thought your bed frame would be safe? Guess again! Cats appreciate anything that lets them practice nighttime acrobatics, and those wooden frames can collect all sorts of scratch marks. Forget about sleeping; your cat views bedtime as the perfect hour for interior redesign.
4. Curtains
Okay, yes, we know that curtains aren’t technically furniture, but your cat doesn’t care about that. Flowing fabric and giant curtain rods? Yeah, those look like an invitation to climb, hide, or launch a surprise attack on passersby.
5. Bookshelves
We spend a lot of time organizing our bookshelves—and cats love to do the same (in their way). Our beloved shelves attract cats because they combine height, mystery, and breakable objects in a perfect trifecta. A determined climber can shove aside novels, picture frames, and vases with impressive confidence.
