5 Treats You Can Give Your Dog


Can Fido Really Eat That?

Dogs know how to work the room, and that often means table scraps or full-blown meals! Their puppy eyes blink up at us, and the next thing you know, we’ve given away half our dinner. As nice as it is to share, only certain people food is safe for dogs; come with us as we explore which snacks make the best treats for your pooch.

1. Carrots

Carrots do wonders for humans and puppies alike, so don’t be afraid to toss Fido a few sticks. Raw or cooked, carrots are a healthy, low-calorie snack that boosts immune function and provides plenty of vitamins. They’re also nature’s toothbrush!

2. Blueberries

The next time you’re blending a smoothie, toss your pooch a few blueberries. This snack makes a terrific, low-calorie option that’s high in antioxidants and fiber. Offer them in moderation, and don’t give more than a few at a time, and you'll have an even closer best friend.

3. Cooked Chicken

Hang on a second—we’re not talking about fast food chicken. We’re talking about unseasoned, boiled chicken that no human would ever want! It sounds cruel, but your dog will be just as happy with a skinless breast as we are with fried drumsticks. Chicken also helps calm an upset stomach, so it works overtime to provide for our pets.

4. Bananas

They have fiber, they have vitamins, and best of all, they don’t have many calories. Bananas make wonderful snacks for your dog in moderation. Try not to offer them too much, as the sugar content could prove troublesome, but feel free to slice off a few pieces for some vitamins and fiber.

5. Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a dog’s best friend (human notwithstanding)! You don’t want to give more than a small spoonful on rare occasions, but peanut butter goes a long way with your canine companion. Just make sure you grab the unflavored, Xylitol-free options!
