Vegetables All Day, Every Day
In the world of carnivores and omnivores, the herbivores of the animal kingdom like to keep things simple by staying on strict diets of leaves, flowers, fruits, and grass. Who needs meat anyway? Because these animals don't! Here are five amazing herbivores that live on this beautiful planet.
1. Zebra
These beautiful black-and-white striped animals are primarily found in African savannahs and grasslands where they're able to find their favorite foods: leaves and grass. Yes, these amazing creatures are herbivores, but you likely already knew that given how often they're depicted as prey to cheetahs, lions, and other apex predators in media.
2. Elephant
Given that elephants are the largest land animals on the planet, we should be thankful they're not carnivorous! Because of their massive size, these animals need to eat a whole lot of vegetation in order to survive. From grass to fruits, roots, leaves, and twigs, luckily, elephants eat a wide range of plants.
3. Giraffe
With their exceptionally long necks perfect for reaching trees and other tall plants no other animal can get, giraffes were built to be herbivores. These gentle creatures largely feed on leaves, twigs, and flowers, eating so much on the daily that they're able to get most of their water needs from the vegetation alone.
4. Koalas
If you're someone who's a picky eater, you could learn a thing or two from koalas. Not only are these cute animals herbivores, but they primarily eat just one thing: eucalyptus leaves! Though there are different varieties, it is more or less the same thing every day, all day, and yet they never get bored of it; now that's impressive!
5. Kangaroo
Given how muscular these animals are, are you really that surprised to learn that kangaroos load up on their greens? These beloved Australian animals feast entirely on diets made up of grass, flowers, leaves, and more. Just because they don't eat meat doesn't mean they won't hesitate to get aggressive with humans though!
